It was gloomy on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital as five people were killed at the Bodija Abattoir Market during a clash between the butchers and a security team detailed to enforce movement of butchers to the new centre at Amosun Village, along Oyo Road.

Speaking at the scene, Oyo Commissioner of police, Abiodun Odude, confirmed that two people lost their lives.

According to him, “We understand that at least two people were gone down and there was an attempt to attack this police station and they quickly mobilized and we are salvaging.”

It was learnt that the five people allegedly killed include three butchers, a boy picking aluminum scraps by the roadside and a female fashion designer

Odude also disclosed, “You can see we are at the scene of the crime, we are trying to put together what has happened.

“The only thing I can narrate to you is that this morning there was supposed to be an arrest of those people who are selling by the roadside and in the process there was confrontation.

“An eyewitness told newsmen that it all began when the enforcement team stormed the market and were shooting into the air to scare the butchers away.”
